Position: Credit Analyst

Job Description

The Credit Analyst is responsible for the collection, evaluation and analysis of financial data in regards to member business loan requests and ongoing relationships to identify and quantify risk and financial capacity of borrowers. It is also responsible for monitoring compliance with NCUA regulations, Purdue Federal MBL and Appraisal policies and procedures on all existing and prospective business loan members.

Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions):

  • Review and analyze credit requests to determine financial and non-financial strengths/weaknesses, risk level, and feasibility of proposed credit relationships and transactions
  • Prepare formal credit risk assessment analysis on new and existing credit
  • Analyze and communicate financial condition and performance (historical, current, and projected) of proposed and existing business members
  • Establish, determine and recommend appropriate controls and formulas as may be required as based upon the complexity and risk of a credit proposal (i.e. loan agreement language, borrowing base certificate advance rates, and formulas, etc.)
  • Evaluate trends in customer data to promptly identify and report areas of concern and potential problem loans, and determine courses of action to mitigate the problems. Communicate the findings to loan officers and senior management
  • Order appraisals as directed or review and prepare summary evaluation on all formal appraisal reports not ordered by credit analyst to identify material weaknesses and deficiencies and report such findings to loan officers for corrective action
  • Internal support of departmental projects and activities including loan and deposit product changes, implementation and training of staff to cross sell commercial products
  • Collect and assemble portfolio data for special reports to management, MBL Committee and Board
  • Responsible for creating department and credit union reports
  • Research and investigate local and national economic trends that may impact current loans and collateral
  • Provide guidance and assistance to MBS Operations Specialist in performing monthly reports and problem resolution regarding member and staff issues and questions
  • Attend continuing education seminars on credit analysis and analysis software to enhance personal knowledge and skill
  • Assist in training new departmental staff on all aspects of Suntel, Spectrum Branch Suite, and other operational software used by Purdue Federal MBS

Knowledge, Skill, and Ability Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Management or related field
  • College credit hours in accounting preferred
  • 1-3 years experience in lending institutions analyzing credit required
  • Strong financial and analytical skills
  • Strong computer skills; proficient in MS Excel
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to complete assignments in a timely manner
  • Ability to communicate, verbally and in writing, in a professional manner when dealing with employees, members, vendors and company contacts
  • Ability to follow the core values of honesty, integrity, mutual respect, pride and ownership

Work Environment/Physical Demands:

  • This job operates in a clerical office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phone, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines
  • This position requires manual dexterity, the ability to lift files and open filing cabinets
  • This position requires sitting, bending, stooping or standing as necessary
